Dawa Sherpa becomes the first Nepali athlete to join North Face TeamApr 1, 2019
Sherpa, who is also recognized as the country’s first lady international mountain guide and expert, has reached professional athlete agreement with The North Face, a division of VF Outdoor, previous week entering the infrequent echelon of the universal athletes in the biggest brand name.
As reported by The Himalayan Times she said “I am humbled and extremely happy to be part of The North Face Athlete family and grateful for all their support as I continue my passion of climbing,” after she made it to the team.
With this agreement, she has also become of the very few professional mountaineers representing Nepal to be paid as an athlete by a world-renowned major western company. As per the Concord, Dawa will be receiving a noticeable amount of cash compensation, travel and lodging expenses, and gear including clothing and equipment and many more.
Also, she will also be provided with most of the mandatory gears by The North Face for specific purposes such as ascending above 8,000 meters, the rapport reads. “The North Face will be paying, Dawa a daily rate of Rs 39,000 for additional Athlete days fro the promotion of the brand, and a daily rate of Rs 17,000 for extra travel days.”
Dawa told that she had never believed that a Sherpa girl from a country like Nepal would be privileged by the selection into the upper echelon of athlete program in the United States, primarily in The North Face Team.
Prior to The North Face, Dawa was appointed as an athlete for Sherpa Adventure Gear for more than five years. She is the first IFMGA Certified Female Guide in South Asia and the only one of the two female guides with IFMGA certification in the whole of Asia.
An expert skier, with experiences in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, and the Alps of France, she has not only worked as a professional guide in Nepal but also in global tourism including the US and South America. She has been featured by many honorable magazines and organizations like National Geographic too.
Of course! This is astounding news for all of us! A genuine reason to celebrate, a matter of pride, a perfect moment of happiness!
Let’s hope many more athletes, guides, and stakeholders representing Nepal receive such universal brand tie-up as well. Team Nepal Calls You would like to extend best wishes to Dawa Sherpa. Desperately, we look forward to seeing her portfolio being featured on The North Face.
